Hierarchical Stochastic Activity Networks: Formal Definitions and Behaviour
نویسنده
چکیده
Stochastic activity networks (SANs) are a powerful and flexible extension of Petri nets. These models can be used for the modelling and analysis of various kinds and different aspects of distributed real-time systems. Similar to other classical extensions of Petri nets, SANs have some limitations for modelling complex and large-scale systems. In order to remove some of these limitations and provide high-level modelling constructs, we have defined a new extension for SANs, called hierarchical stochastic activity networks (HSANs). HSAN models provide a construct for composing a hierarchy of SAN submodels that is called macro activity. HSANs encapsulate hierarchies and a key benefit of these models is the possibility of automatic selection and usage of techniques for model construction with reduced state spaces by their modelling tools. In this paper, we will present the informal and formal definitions, behaviour and state process of HSANs. We will also introduce methods for the solution of HSAN models by state space analysis and discrete-event simulation techniques.

Coloured Stochastic Activity Networks: Preliminary Definitions and Properties
Several high-level extensions have been introduced for Petri nets (PNs). Coloured Petri nets (CPNs) are the most famous high-level extensions of PNs. Stochastic activity networks (SANs) are a stochastic generalization of PNs. These models have widely been used for dependability and performability evaluation purposes and are supported with a few powerful modeling tools. To provide some high-leve...
متن کاملStochastic Activity Networks: Formal Definitions and Concepts
Stochastic activity networks have been used since the mid1980s for performance, dependability, and performability evaluation. They have been used as a modeling formalism in three modeling tools (METASAN, UltraSAN, and Möbius), and have been used to evaluate a wide range of systems. This chapter provides the formal definitions and basic concepts associated with SANs, explaining their behavior an...

متن کاملH∞ Sampled-Data Controller Design for Stochastic Genetic Regulatory Networks
Artificially regulating gene expression is an important step in developing new treatment for system-level disease such as cancer. In this paper, we propose a method to regulate gene expression based on sampled-data measurements of gene products concentrations. Inherent noisy behaviour of Gene regulatory networks are modeled with stochastic nonlinear differential equation. To synthesize feed...
متن کاملCombination of Approximation and Simulation Approaches for Distribution Functions in Stochastic Networks
This paper deals with the fundamental problem of estimating the distribution function (df) of the duration of the longest path in the stochastic activity network such as PERT network. First a technique is introduced to reduce variance in Conditional Monte Carlo Sampling (CMCS). Second, based on this technique a new procedure is developed for CMCS. Third, a combined approach of simulation and ap...
